AKAMATSU, Ryuushi.
SHIKI NO HAIGA: PICTURESQUE HAIKU
A TENDER, LOVELY HAIKU AND A 'HOW TO PAINT' JAPANESE STYLE
A very lovely, tender work. This book was designed to show
Haiku poems, with their associated delicate and lovely color
paintings. It is also a way to teach people how to paint
with Japanese style brush & gouach [water-colors] on paper.
It shows various themes for Spring & Summer, when the plants
and flowers are at their zenith. Each Haiku shows a painting
and how to draw it, and it also shows the stroke order, with
numbers & can be easily used by people who dont read Japan-
ese at all, as there is no explanatory text whatsoever !
None is really need, as this was clearly designed to be a
"how to " type book. One just carefully looks at the instr-
uctional photos of 48 actual color paintings to get the idea
of how to do it. Examples show traditional Japanese subjects
like flowers, weeping willows, bamboo, fish, folk-art,land-
capes, toys, fish, bird &c. The adjacent Haiku are beautif-
ully created with lovely visuals. Color scans can be sent by
email.
